Sherlin is a partner in the international arbitration and litigation team. She is a specialist in cross-border corporate disputes (with a particular focus on joint-venture and shareholder disputes), international commercial arbitration, and multi-jurisdiction litigations. With over a decade of experience, Sherlin has advised clients in the APAC region, the Americas, and Europe on all phases and aspects of international arbitrations and litigations. From M&A transactions, to negotiations, dispute proceedings, and enforcement of international arbitral awards and/or court judgments, Sherlin utilizes her rare set of skills to ensure the best result for her client. Her career has given her the ability to view a dispute from all possible roles. Given this experience, she is able to understand the overlaying objectives of not only of her clients but also the strategies implemented by counterparties, how judges/arbitrators think, and how courts/arbitral institutions operate. Prior to joining Withers, Sherlin worked with a leading international law firm in Hong Kong where she was a member of the international disputes practice group. She started her international disputes career by working with a leading independent arbitrator based in Switzerland where she acted as tribunal secretary for over 35 complex, international commercial disputes. Thereafter, Sherlin worked for the leading arbitral institution, the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, in both Hong Kong and New York, the latter of which she was a founding member of the case management office. During her time at the ICC, she managed over 300 international arbitration proceedings. Sherlin also worked in-house with a publicly listed international conglomerate where she was the lead international counsel in the group’s various M&A transactions as well as their international litigation and arbitration disputes. During her time in-house, Sherlin also advised the parent company’s Board of Directors in their capacities as directors and shareholders of various joint ventures. As a dual Taiwanese-American citizen who was born in Taiwan and educated mainly in the U.S., Sherlin is adept at working with multi-national companies and handling their transactions and disputes in various languages. She understands how parties from different backgrounds and jurisdictions think and can develop a strategy that is best suited to her clients’ needs. Sherlin regularly speaks in conferences as well as gives lectures and trainings worldwide on international arbitration and cross-border disputes.
